Summer finally has let go after fighting to stay all the way through September and even into October. But we must face facts and embrace the months of mists and mellow fruitfulness.
There’s lots to look forward to over the next few months and so here is a round up of some of the key events and activities as we move further into autumn.
A regular event each Thursday is the Grand Flea market which takes places in The Agatha Christie Assembly Rooms at Torquay Town Hall. With over 90 stalls this is an ideal way to spend time when the weather might not be so good outside. Takes place between 9.am and 1pm.
Amongst the one off events and activities is the arrival of Bjorn the animatronic polar bear who will be appearing at Living Coasts in Torquay on 29th October. Visitors will be able to get up close and personal to him in a way they would never dream of had he been real. The Princess Theatre in Torquay plays host to some fantastic shows over the autumn. On 2nd November, comedy legend Sue Pollard will be appearing in Ha Ha Hood which is billed as ”Irreverent and funny, this brand new romp co will take you on an hilarious adventure through the heroic and daring world of Sherwood Forest, led by Hood and his merry men (in tights!)” Also at the Princess Theatre will be baking heart throb Paul Hollywood who brings his first ever stage show to the theatre on 8th November. One last show to mention at The Princess Theatre appears on 20th November and it is Eric and Little Earn which is a brilliantly funny and moving homage to Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise. Don’t forget that if you book at The Somerville we can get you tickets for any show at The Princess Theatre which saves you the cost of booking fees. (Now normally £3.00 per ticket..)
For those who feel nostalgia for the nineteen eighties, pop group China Crisis are back together and touring. With records that spent a total of 92 weeks in the charts , the group are appearing at The South Devon Arts Centre on 28th November.
Halloween is fast approaching and all of the English Riviera attractions have got activities to spook and make visitors jump. The Babbacombe Model Village has Halloween Evenings of Mini Horrors between October 25th and October 31st. Meanwhile over at Kent’s Caverns there is Boo!! Halloween Fun! This takes place between 25th October and 2nd November.
As The English Riviera has a very mild climate it is an ideal destination of an autumn break. The Somerville in Torquay offers Five Star Gold Award Guest Accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis. For guests wanting something different there is the Hesketh Crescent Apartment which is a Five Star Graded Self Catering Apartment which is located close to the beach in the beautiful Regency Hesketh Crescent.
